Reduction In Uninsured Drivers On UK Roads
The Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) program has had positive results on lowering the number of uninsured drivers on UK roads. The number of uninsured drivers is now down to 1 million, a fall of around 28% since 2010. Driving without insurance is a criminal offence that carries with it serious consequences. A conviction for driving without insurance will carry a fine up to £5,000, penalty points being placed onto your licence and in some circumstances the licence can be revoked.
Last year 121,000 uninsured vehicles were seized by the police, this was an increase from 116,000 in 2014. The scheme is administered jointly by the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency) and the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau) with the aim to lower the number of uninsured drivers in the UK.
